Puerto Rico Weather is characterized as tropical, with abundant sunshine, moderate temperatures throughout the year, high levels of humidity and is prone to attacks by cyclones. However, in comparison to other West Indies location Puerto Rico Weather is considered to be healthier.

Blowing throughout the year north-east trade winds moderate temperatures; brisk during the day, their ferocity somewhat subdued during the night they keep temperatures to an average of 26.7 °C in lower elevations and 21.1 °C in the mountains. As a general rule temperatures in the north part of Puerto Rico are usually a few degrees lower than those recorded in the south while the mountainous regions of the central interior remain cooler throughout the year.

Puerto Rico Weather is such that temperature fluctuation between winter and summer is almost insignificant, nestling at a meager 3.3 °C. This little marked variation can be contributed to the calming effects of the warm waters of the tropical Atlantic ocean that modifies cooler air moving in from the north and northwest.

Although rainfalls tend to be evenly distributed throughout the year, there is a dry and wet season. While the first occurs between November and May, the latter coincides with the hurricane season, which falls from November to April. However, sudden rainfalls are known to punctuate even the finest weather, usually lasting for around 5 to 20 minutes at a time. Precipitation tends to be higher in the north coast which receives almost double the rain in comparison to the south coast. Annual precipitation in the north is 1,550mm; in the south is 910mm, in coastal regions 101-381 cm (40-150 inches) and in the mountains 508 cm. Snow is simply a non entity.

Although Puerto Rico is significantly less exposed to the cyclones of the Caribbean – especially in comparison to Jamaica, Cuba, and the Lesser Antilles – hurricanes frequently invade the archipelago between August and October. A quarter of Puerto Rico’s annual rainfall us a direct result of tropical cyclones.

Another contributing factor to variations in temperature and rainfall typical of weather in Puerto Rico is the mountainous region of the Cordillera Central. Due to their sheltering effect these mountains are also responsible for changes in local wind speed and direction.

Overall, Puerto Rico Weather is renewed for the warm and sunny disposition it retains throughout the year. If you are planning on visiting, lightweight clothing is all you need to pack, irrespective of what time of the year.
